Trusting the Wild

Our Purpose

Lost Arrow Buffalo Co is a family owned and operated ranch located along the Front Range of the Rockies. The first time we saw a herd of buffalo on the open prairie, it was obvious to us they belonged there.  The animals created harmonious simplicity on the landscape.   Our passion is the animal and raising buffalo in a way that is better for the herd and better for the land. The result is meat that is better for you.  We raise buffalo, because they eat the native plants and regenerate the soil and prairie.  The dirt, grasses and forbs, and insects and wildlife depend upon the buffalo. They belong on this land. Bison are not cattle. They are undomesticated animals.  Therefore, federal law prohibits the use of hormones in bison. Bison must be handled and raised differently than cattle as well. The animals are raised in open pasture, on the land they have coevolved with, not confined in feedlots.

Bison meat is low in fat and is higher in conjugated linoleic acid, omega-3 to omega-6 ratio, iron, and protein when compared ounce to ounce with  beef. Read more about bison meat nutrition here.

We believe that ranching, when done thoughtfully and responsibly, can be an incredible tool for land restoration and preservation and soil health. Our goal is to show that it’s possible to produce food by giving back as much as we take, and ensuring that the land remains healthy for generations to come. If you find yourself along the front range of Colorado, stop by and say hi!

EAT wild. EAT the way nature intended. EAT bison.
